Home Makeover: Bedroom Bliss

I’ve been taking my time when it comes to revealing my house renovation because I feel like nothing is ever done. I think I’m finally starting to understand why people say a house is a never-ending project. There’s always something else I want to add or something that needs to be fixed. For example, this week I finally got a functioning dryer after a month of having a broken one. When my dad brought in the new dryer, he scraped the wall in the hallway and now I have to spackle and repaint.

Aside from my constant to-do list, I finally put the finishing touches on my bedroom. When we first looked at my house the bedroom didn’t need quite as much work as the other rooms. The ceiling had fallen in from a leak in the roof but it was a quick fix. The room was small to begin with so to make better use of the space I took out the closet. This gave the room another two feet and by using the room next door as a closet, it saved me the trouble of finding storage.

Like all the other rooms in the house, I removed the carpet and installed new laminate flooring. I also painted the bedroom the same color as the closet, a nice light gray. I can’t remember what light fixture was in this room before we renovated but we added a 42 inch light/fan combo from Lowes (which matches the larger light/fans in the living room) and recessed lighting to brighten it up.

The extra space from removing the closet came in handy because I had my heart set on buying a king size bed. I’ve had a twin sized bed my entire life and for once I wanted to be able to stretch out and relax without rolling into a wall. I bought a Bob-O-Pedic king size hybrid mattress and it’s the most comfortable thing in the world. It’s like sleeping on a cloud. If you’re in the market for a new mattress I highly suggest checking this one out (but be wary of the high interest rates).

Searching for a new comforter and sheet set was a tedious process. I knew I wanted white to keep with the neutral color scheme but every white comforter I found was either too expensive or too ugly. I finally settled on this one from Kohls. I bought a matching bed skirt too since the bed frame is a generic metal one and the skirt hides all of the things I’m storing underneath the bed. The pillows are Serta (extremely comfortable) and I img_1482picked them up from Walmart along with extra black pillowcases. One of my favorite pieces in this room is the decorative candle holder above the bed. It’s from Party Lite and was a gift from my boyfriend. I originally planned to put it in the living room but it ended up looking better in this room.

Since I hate waking up to light in the morning so I bought blackout curtains off of Amazon. They’re a wonderful investment and really help when it comes to mid-day naps.

In my old bedroom I had a polaroid wall and I wanted to do the same thing in my house. I love seeing all the pictures on display and it’s a nice decoration for the room. The dresser and mirror by the door were given to me by my aunt. I spray painted both of them black to match img_1477the curtains and this room ended up being one of the only rooms in the house that has more black decor than white. I don’t mind though because I think it’s a nice contrast to the rest of the house. I also have a side table (not pictured) that I picked up from a garage sale and spray painted black.

What do you think of the before and after? Let me know in the comments section below.
